Whether you grow a huge backyard spice garden, a small spice garden on your windowsill or a beautiful Aerogarden, you will quickly learn the satisfaction achieved from such a noble project. Your own natural herbs and healthy spices will increase the quality of your cooking. Not only will using garden herbs and spices make you look and feel like a better cook, your food will taste great. Many people today fill their Spice Racks with natural, organic and healthy spices grown right at home.

Going Green With Spice Gardens
Spice gardens are more than just a novelty these days, they are part of a new way of life for many people all over the world. More and more people are realizing ‘going green’ isn’t just another yuppie feel-good term to put on a bumper sticker. Living as green as possible is simply the responsible thing to do. Things like growing your own spice garden and using your own home-grown herbs and healthy spices is a very small price to pay just for doing the right thing.

Think about the waste and refuse saved as more and more people eat from their own home gardens. The packaging eliminated alone is huge benefit in itself. the spice garden ecological benefits are many. Less transportation from moving those bulk spices stuffed into manufactured packages by the pallet full. Crammed in to shipping containers and trucks destined for locations worldwide. That equals a lot of energy and pollution. We could go into the whole issue of what it takes to manufacture all that packaging, build all those pallets, cut all that wood and a ton of other logistical issues like the transportation of all of those things but you get the point… Growing your own spice garden helps the planet with a positive impact on our economy.

Growing your own Spice Garden For Savings – Or Not?
The truth is you may save money by eating your own home grown spices but not enough to be the sole reason. First, we don’t tend to spend a large portion, overall, of our income on spices. Second, with newer technology and the systems growers, manufacturers and processors use, store bought spices aren’t really expensive. So if cost savings alone is the driving force behind the idea of growing a spice garden you may be somewhat disappointed. Don’t worry, there are many other worthwhile reasons to dig into the earth and growing a spice garden.

Health Wise Benefits Of Your Herb And Spice Garden
Eating your own food grown naturally at home can offer fantastic health benefits. Using natural fertilizers is a great place to start. Avoid chemical fertilizers if at all possible. Things like coffee grinds, compost, manure, and even grass clippings and mulch make great natural fertilizers for your spice garden.

Ingesting less preservatives, chemicals and herbicides can help your health and perhaps even prolong life a little. Another healthy factor to consider when deciding if you want a spice garden is shelf life. I wouldn’t even want to know how long those packaged spices purchased at the store have been sitting on shelves and warehouses. Even if they have been processed and blended with a ton of preservatives I feel much better cooking with fresh spices right out of my own garden.

The Bottom Line
The bottom line is that growing a small herb and spice garden in your backyard or a little indoor spice garden in your window doesn’t make you a tree hugger or a nut. Like I said, an indoor spice garden is one of the easiest ways of doing our part to help the economy while getting a ton of enjoyment at the same time. A spice garden can make you feel better, look better and make your food taste better. Really, what more is there than that? Who knows, you may decide to expand your garden of spice with a vegetable garden some day too.

Having a spice garden is like having a time machine that will bring you back right in the middle of the glorious spice trade days.

For someone who enjoys cooking, you would rather get your spices right from your own spice garden at home. Who would really know if that spices that is packaged on shelves and stock houses to be sold in market have been there for long and the only thing that keeps them going is the preservatives? The bottom idea in all this is that you will get to save on spending especially on spices. You will get to help the whole economy while getting your leisure time done in something productive. A small spice garden will actually make you feel better, save money on spices, look better and make your food a lot tasty. What more can you ask from that? You can also expand your spices garden into something more productive that sells fresh from the plant.

Whether you use spice for cooking, healing purposes or to make tea, having a garden full of spices and herbs will give you a lot of benefits. Your garden of spices will ensure that you will have fresh supply of whatever you are growing all year round. However, you only need to know how to grow it correctly. Should you decide to grow a home spice garden indoors, you must know how to set it up although once you already had it set up the maintenance would be quite easy.

Let us look at some steps you can take to grow a garden indoors.

Step #1 – Buying spice seeds

Make sure that you purchase seeds that are high-quality from a credible source with stocks that are always fresh. Choose packages that are dust-free and do away with old stocks that are sitting on the shelves for too long.

Step #2 – Sunny area

Set up the spice garden on a sunny area. Some garden kits are provided with tabletop greenhouse while others are provided with pots and trays. Always make sure that your pots have excellent drainage.

Step #3 – Indoor spice garden recipe

In the beginning, you need to put jiffy pellets as one of the recipe. Other green thumb ingredients include seeds, water, warmth and sun to complete the entire package of the herb and spice garden. If you do not use jiffy pellets then at least you can use high grade potting soil. Make sure that your pack of high grade potting soil contains enough nutrients that the plants will feed on in the next months. Fill the pot and add water accordingly. On the wet soil, sprinkle the seeds then add some more soil on top of the seeds. Make sure that you know the maximum number of seeds to be placed in one pot.

Step #4 – Transfer your garden pots

When the seedlings are growing, transfer them to larger pots so that it will have enough room. Always make sure that the pots have adequate moisture so that it can grow properly. Make sure that the garden is on a sunny part of the house.

When the herbs and spices are growing and lavishing, you can now enjoy fresh spices that will make your food taste great and makes you healthy inside and out. You will be enjoying your own Spice Garden in know time.

Why would you have a spice garden? Growing a garden full of herbs and spices in your backyard, on a sunny area in your window or a magnificent aero-garden is like achieving a wonderful satisfaction from this small project. You will have a chance of owning natural herbs and spices that will not only make your cooking taste better but will also give you health benefits in more ways than one. You will also look and feel better as an individual and as a cook. A lot of people today are now riding the trend of filling their backyard or the kitchen windows with natural herbs and spices that are easily accessible whenever you want spices for food, tea or for medicinal purposes.

Growing a garden of spices is more than just a prize of novelty during these days because this has become an essential part of life since it will save you from buying those packaged spices off the shelves from the market or in the grocery store. You will enjoy a lot of benefits when you use natural home-grown spices. Growing a spice garden is more than just feeling good or looking good. It gives you a chance at living green as you help the environment fight off pollution from processed foods and the likes. Home-grown herbs and natural spices are a great investment and a lifetime of enjoyment of the health benefits you can get.

You will be doing the right thing as you go green. Imagine a lot of manufacturing companies and producers that are packaging and processing a lot of spices into tiny packages in order to sell them into high prices in the market. Would you rather not have natural and healthy spices grown right in your home? So you see that the benefit of growing your own spice garden is more than just making you save money or be healthy. You will also feel better because somehow you helped Mother Earth fight the natural ecosystem’s destruction and deterioration.

Even though we will only save a very small fraction of money by utilizing our home-grown spices because firstly we do not allot a large portion of our income on spices, one small penny when collected and summed up will still be a large savings. However, the advent of new technology utilized for growers, manufacturers as well as processors of herbs and spices enables the people to buy spices off the rack in stores to be not that expensive. Therefore, when you look at it in a different angle, a lot of people would rather buy than to grow. But, growing your own garden of spice is still a worthwhile endeavor and a great hobby to begin with.

Just think about this, you will be ingesting herbs and spices that are so natural that they do not contain chemical preservatives and not grown with the use of pesticides and herbicides. What more can you ask from that? Needless to say that you will be enjoying a lifetime health benefit because these herbs and spices are natural medicines in the first place. Understanding your spice garden is the first step to enjoying it.
